
Stop Fighting With Your Sidel Lamp Replacements
If you’ve ever tried to swap out heating lamps in a PET blow molding machine, you know the headache. You buy a replacement, get it on the floor, and then realize it doesn’t actually fit. Or maybe it fits, but not quite—you’re suddenly spending your afternoon shimming brackets or messing with wiring just to get it to sit right. It’s frustrating. And it wastes time you don’t have. That’s why we built our lamp series to be a true “drop-in” fix. Whether you’re running the old-school SBO units or the newer Matrix series, these should just work. Getting the fit right We spent a lot of time mapping out the exact dimensions and connector angles of the SBO and Matrix lines. The goal was simple: make sure the lamps slide right into the holders without you having to modify a single thing. We kept the tolerances on the glass length and end-caps tight. No more hacking away at the oven or rewiring the system. You just put them in and get back to work. Power and Heat Here is the tricky part: different Sidel generations handle power differently. Some need high-voltage shortwave quartz; others need specialized coated tubes. We’ve matched the wattage and voltage to the original OEM specs so your electrical load stays steady. But—and this is a big but—double-check your power supply before you plug everything in. A lamp made for a Matrix system might pull more current than an old SBO module can handle. If you go too high on the wattage, you’re looking at tripped breakers or, worse, a melted wiring harness. A few tips for the install We use standard connectors so the lamps click into place securely. That’s important because loose connections cause arcing, and arcing is the fastest way to burn out a brand-new lamp. One last thing:don’t touch the quartz glass with your bare hands. It sounds small, but the oils from your skin create hot spots on the glass. Those spots lead to cracks and failure. Grab a lint-free cloth and some isopropyl alcohol, give the tubes a quick clean before you wire them up, and your filaments will last a whole lot longer.
