
Why we put our bathroom heaters through “torture tests”
Let’s be honest: bathrooms are a nightmare for electronics. You’ve got thick steam, wild temperature swings, and constant moisture. It’s a brutal environment. If a seal is just a tiny bit off, or if a quartz tube has a microscopic crack, the whole thing is going to short out. And that usually happens right when the customer is in the shower and least expecting it. We aren’t interested in guessing how long our heaters will last. We’d rather just break them in the lab first. The battle against humidity Infrared lamps get incredibly hot. When that heat hits a damp, steamy room, it creates a constant state of thermal shock. To handle this, we use damp-heat aging tests. Basically, we lock the heaters in a chamber that mimics years of bathroom use, but we cram it all into a few days. We crank up the humidity and swing the temperatures back and forth to stress every single seal and wire. If the waterproofing isn’t perfect, moisture creeps in. That leads to rusty contacts and burnt-out filaments. We want to see that happen here, not in someone’s home. Hunting for the breaking point Most of the time, the failure happens right where the wiring enters the heater body. It’s the weakest link. If steam gets through that gap, the insulation fails. That’s why we push these components until they actually snap. We check for leakage currents and make sure the housing stays watertight even under extreme stress. It’s better to find a leak in our warehouse than to deal with a return from yours. The cost of instant heat Everyone loves that instant blast of warmth, but high-wattage lamps create a lot of internal heat. Here’s the tricky part: that heat creates a pressure difference that can actually suck moist air into the unit through the smallest gaps. It’s like a vacuum for steam. To stop that, we use much tighter tolerances on our gaskets. Does it make the assembly process slower? Yeah. Does it require more precision from our team? Absolutely. But we’re okay with a slower production pace if it means we don’t have to deal with recalls.
