The Fit (And Why It Can’t Be “Close Enough”)
If you’re swapping out a coil, it has to fit perfectly. If it’s a bit too short, you’ll have dead zones where the heat just doesn’t reach. Too long? It might touch the oven wall. That’s a fast track to a short circuit or a burnt-out element. Not something you want to deal with on a Sunday afternoon. We also obsess over the contact points. If the terminals don’t fit snugly, you get electrical resistance. Instead of the coil heating your food, the connection point starts heating up. It wastes power and, if you’re not careful, it can actually melt your wiring.
The Trade-off
Let’s be real: high-precision coils cost more. That’s because they use better alloys and require much tighter work during manufacturing. But there’s a catch. If you put a top-of-the-line coil into an oven with a cheap, old-school mechanical dial, you aren’t going to feel the difference. It’s like putting racing tires on a golf cart. To really see the benefit, you need a PID controller—a sensor that can actually keep up with the precision of the hardware.
