Stop Fighting Your KHS Blow Molding Lines
Ever notice how some bottles come off the line looking perfect, while others have weird thin spots or just look… off? It usually comes down to heat. If your KHS machine isn’t distributing heat evenly, your wall thickness goes all over the place and your bottles deform. We see this happen all the time when shops try to save a few bucks with generic lamps in high-speed PET runs. The goal is simple: get the heat field stable so the preform stretches exactly how it’s supposed to.
The nitty-gritty of heat
It really comes down to where the filament sits and how pure the quartz glass is. We make our tubes to incredibly tight tolerances because we want to kill those “cold spots” you usually find at the ends of the lamp. By keeping that tungsten filament dead-center, the infrared radiation hits the preform at the right angle. No guesswork. Just consistent heat.
The trade-offs (Because nothing is magic)
We use high-purity fused quartz. Why? Because it can take the punch of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. These are drop-in replacements, so they fit your KHS footprint and electrical load exactly. But here’s the thing. You get higher heat density, but that comes with a catch. When you push more wattage through a shorter tube, the quartz surface gets hotter. **Check your oven’s airflow.**If your air isn’t dialed in, you’re going to overheat the ends of the tubes and burn them out way too fast.
Making it work on the floor
These lamps are built for bulk swaps. We use standard connectors, so you can wire them up without having to mess around with your machine’s existing harness. It’s a straightforward swap. When you replace a whole bank of tubes, you’re basically hitting the reset button on your heat field. It gives you a clean, uniform baseline to calibrate your profiles. And a quick tip:don’t swap them one by one. Mixing old, tired lamps with brand-new ones creates a thermal mess. Your operators will end up cranking the temperature settings to compensate for the old tubes, which just kills the lifespan of the new ones. Swap the whole set. It’s easier, and it actually lasts.
