You need those shortwave infrared lamps to get the preforms soft enough to stretch, but finding a replacement bulb that actually fits without a headache is a pain. We decided to fix that. The Voltage Headache Matching the voltage is usually where things go sideways. We stick to the standards—220V and 400V. Here’s the trick: if you go with a 400V lamp, you can pack more wattage into a shorter tube. That means you get a more intense heat density, which speeds up your preform heating without needing a bigger oven. Just a heads-up—make sure your transformers can handle the wattage of the new bulb. If they can’t, you’re just looking at a premature burnout. Quartz and Connectors (The “Midnight Shift” Test) We use high-purity quartz glass because these lamps take a beating with constant rapid heating and cooling. Then there are the connectors—usually R7s or SK15. We keep the tolerances tight. Why? Because nobody wants to be fighting with a stubborn socket during a midnight shift change when the pressure is on. And if you’re finding that the plastic isn’t absorbing the heat well, we’ve got coated options. The coating shifts the spectrum so the PET plastic actually grabs the energy instead of just reflecting it away. The Trade-off Since we stick to industry-standard lengths and diameters, you can swap these into most European or Asian lines without having to mess around with your reflectors. It just works. But keep this in mind: if you crank up the wattage to shave seconds off your cycle time, your oven is going to get hotter. Make sure your cooling fans can keep up.
