Usually, the culprit is a “cold spot.” In those heavy-duty deck ovens, it happens when your infrared lamps start to fade or weren’t the right fit for the job from the start. How the heat actually works
Here is the thing: these lamps use a tungsten filament tucked inside a quartz envelope with halogen gas. That gas is the secret sauce. It stops the filament from evaporating too fast, which means your heat stays steady and strong for the life of the bulb. Unlike convection—which just pushes hot air around—shortwave IR goes straight through the surface. You aren’t just warming up the air in the oven; you’re heating the actual mass of the product. It’s a much more direct way to get the job done.
Getting the fit right
We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements. But you have to be careful with the specs. Match your voltage and wattage exactly. If you don’t, you’ll either under-power the zone or just burn the filament right out. And please, double-check the footprint. Even a few millimeters off can make the lamp sit crooked in the socket. That creates an arc point, and boom—your lamp is gone. While you’re in there, check your connectors. Make sure they’re clean and tight. In an environment with a lot of vibration, a loose wire is usually why lamps fail way sooner than they should.
The trade-off (and how to handle it)
High-wattage halogen tubes put out a massive amount of heat. It fixes the uneven bake, but it puts a lot of stress on the oven housing. If you’re bumping up the wattage to speed up your cycle times, do yourself a favor:**polish your reflectors.**If they’re dirty, they won’t bounce the heat back down to the deck. That forces the lamps to run hotter, which kills them faster. One last tip: keep the quartz tubes clean. No oils, no fingerprints. If you touch the glass with your bare hands, those skin oils create tiny hotspots. Once the lamp hits operating temperature, those spots can cause the glass to crack instantly. Keep it clean, and it’ll last.
